Mel cut his commercial PR teeth back in the 1970's when he spent a number of years working in the forefront of the music industry with RCA Records.

A long career with Norfolk Constabulary culminated in him becoming Media Manager for the police force, personally overseeing some of the most newsworthy incidents of those times.

Mel managed the force's media involvement in many incidents that became national and international news...

The mysterious disappearance of a young brother and sister in the late 1990's gripped the nation's interest for weeks and created massive media demands on Norfolk Constabulary that Mel managed from start to finish.

He headed the media arm of Norfolk Constabulary for numerous murder enquiries that attracted the nation's media. One in particular grabbed massive interest among local, national and international journalists - the shooting of burglar Fred Barras by Norfolk farmer Tony Martin. Mel managed every media related aspect of this huge police enquiry from day one, through the crown court trial, to the appeal hearing in the high courts of London.

He was in charge of the force's media handling of the tragic helicopter crash in the North Sea that sadly saw the loss of eleven lives.

After leaving Norfolk Constabulary and becoming a freelance media relations consultant, he spent three years working as a Communications Manager for the local NHS in Norfolk and a period of time carrying out a similar role for Norfolk County Council. 

Press Office Solutions completed contracts for Bedfordshire Police in 2010 and 2011, providing top quality support for one of the country's busiest police forces.
